Waar Jan Willem Deiman in zijn werk onderzoek doet naar modellen van de werkelijkheid (zoals grafische patronen en figuren), richt Kevin Nieuwenhuijs zich op het grensvlak van werkelijkheid en illusie. Vormen, symbolen en tekens spelen voor beiden een belangrijke rol. Deiman maakt tekens uit het Fenicisch schrift tastbaar door ze ruimtelijk te transformeren in metaal. Nieuwenhuijs schildert plastische vormen, die de essentie van creëren, illusie en betekenis binnen het schildersspectrum bevragen.

Whereas Jan Willem Deiman examines models of reality (such as graphic patterns and figures), Kevin Nieuwenhuijs for his part concentrates on the intersection of reality and illusion. Shapes, symbols and signs play an important role in the work of both artists. Deiman renders tangible the signs from the Phoenician alphabetic script by spatially transforming them into metal. Nieuwenhuijs in turn paints pliable shapes which question the essence of creating, illusion and significance within the realm of painting.
